In early 2023, I collaborated with Manchester-based artist and friend Aisling Davis on an earlier body of work, where sonic and audio-based reflections on Irish mysticism in site-specific loughs, or lakes, served as a means to transmute the meaning and interpretation of the work itself. This poem initially interrogates the historical story how Queen Medbh’s bull sat for a sós bheag at the bull-shaped Lough Atariff and drank from it. By creating this work together online during the pandemic, this showcases how sound can travel and mirror and change– like pitch, resonance and intonation can be uniquely created when transmitted through water.
